Educate Yourself
Some step-by-step instruction, knowledge you can use, questions I always get in class, and some wisdom here and
there

data in the process.

Web basics
Get started creating your own Website and what you need to know if you hire someone to do this for you. Improve your
ranking on search engines and research and prepare a good Website.

Photo enhancement and restoration
Tools you need to scan your personal photo or slide collection. Some examples.

Image resolution
Guidelines and recommendations for resolution/ image quality when you scan images using a scanner. Guidelines you
may want to give your staff, colleagues, or family members, when you have to gather high resolution images or
photographs from multiple sources. If someone is creating a logo or you are creating one for yourself, check out my
advice here.

Getting rid of an old computer--what about your hard drive data?
Scrub your hard drive before you get rid of it. . The Washington Post in their 28 December 2008 Business section
suggests Windows users wipe data from your hard drive using a free program called Eraser
(
http://www.heidi.ie/node/6). Make sure you nuke the C: drive's Documents and Settings folder. Mac users OZ X10.3
and newer drag the contents of your home folder to the trash, hit the Finder menu and select "Secure Empty Trash ..."
In OS X 10.1 and 10.2 download and use a free program called Permanent Eraser (
http://edenwaith.com/).
Sometimes it is the small fixes that really makes a
difference in a photo. I fixed the weep in my cat Sammy's
eye. I did just enough where it is not distracting to the
picture. You can learn to do this too. This skill is not limited
to a few graphic designers. Click on either image to view

Before
After
Take a class and go home with a skill you can use
Hands on learning is always best. Students who take my classes can expect to learn by doing. "I do not believe anyone can learn
Photoshop, computer software, digital camera, Web creation, or any other program or technology if they haven't used it or actually
practiced it in class. I teach usable useful skills."

how to turn off the flash on your camera. Ambient light
(and a good tripod) can be important for indoor shots.
